Bendega - For Sustainable Yields!

Bendega.id and Carbon Addons collaborated on a mangrove planting project in Sesetan, Bali on October 16th, 2022. Mangroves are important for coastal ecosystems, as they provide habitats for various marine species, protect coastlines from erosion, and sequester carbon. Rhizophora mucronata was selected as the planting species due to its ability to tolerate the harsh conditions of the coastal environment. The project aimed to contribute to the restoration of the mangrove ecosystem in Sesetan and to offset carbon emissions.

The project required a total of four manpower. The team planted 200 mangrove trees in the Sesetan mangrove forest. They started by preparing the planting area, which involved removing any debris and ensuring proper spacing between each seedling. Then, the Rhizophora mucronata seedlings were planted and the surrounding area was mulched to retain moisture and nutrients.

The project faced several challenges, including the limited availability of seedlings and the harsh conditions of the planting site, such as high salinity and tidal fluctuations. To address the limited seedling availability, the team sourced the seedlings from a local nursery and also propagated their own seedlings. To address the harsh planting conditions, the team carefully selected the planting area and prepared the soil accordingly. Additionally, they implemented a monitoring plan to ensure the survival and growth of the seedlings.

The plantation project had a positive impact on both the environment and the community. The planting of 200 mangrove trees contributed to the restoration of the Sesetan mangrove forest and helped to mitigate carbon emissions. The project also raised awareness among the local community about the importance of mangrove conservation and restoration.
